Pumpkin Prayer Craft for Kids: A Christian Halloween Activity
Fall is here, and with it comes pumpkins on porches, festive family traditions, and lots of fun seasonal activities. I love celebrating all of it with my girls, but I also love finding simple ways to point our fall activities back to Jesus.
That's why I created these Pumpkin Prayer crafts and activities. They're a fun way to use something kids already love (pumpkins!) to start a conversation about faith.
What Is the Pumpkin Prayer?
The Pumpkin Prayer is a simple way to connect pumpkin carving with faith. Each part can remind us of something about God's work in our lives:
Cleaning out the yucky insides = God forgives our sins.
Carving the eyes, nose, and mouth = We open our lives to Him.
Placing a light inside = His light shines through us.
It’s a simple idea that even young kids can understand, and it gives you the chance to talk with them about God's love, forgiveness, and how we can let His light shine through us.

This activity was my girls’ favorite! The craft gives kids another hands-on way to understand the message of the Pumpkin Prayer while practicing cutting and gluing skills.
Scripture Coloring Page
The Scripture coloring page is a simple, quieter activity to use alongside your lesson or as a follow-up.
The activities are designed for PreK–2nd grade and can be used at home, in Sunday school, children's church, or a Christian classroom.

How We Used the Pumpkin Prayer Activities
When I first created these activities, I spread everything out on the kitchen table—crayons, scissors, construction paper, glue sticks, and our new printables.
My girls were so excited to get started!
We started with the wheel craft, and they loved turning it to see the different parts of the prayer. Then we worked through the mini book.
As we worked, we talked about what it means to let God's light shine through us. It didn't feel like a formal lesson. We were just working on a craft together and having a conversation, but it gave us a natural opportunity to talk about our faith.
That's one of my favorite things about faith-based activities like this. They don’t have to be complicated!
Ways to Use the Pumpkin Prayer Activities
There are several ways you could use these Pumpkin Prayer activities during the fall:
At home during family devotion time or a fall activity
In Sunday school or children's church as a seasonal Bible lesson
In a Christian classroom as a Halloween or fall activity
At a church fall festival or pumpkin-themed event
As a follow-up activity after talking about the Pumpkin Prayer
You can use all of the activities together, or choose just one or two depending on the age of your kids and the amount of time you have.

Why I Love the Pumpkin Prayer
I love that the Pumpkin Prayer gives kids something familiar to connect with while you're talking about something much bigger.
Pumpkins are already a big part of fall, so using one to talk about God's forgiveness and letting His light shine through us makes the lesson feel natural, not forced.
And the crafts give younger kids something to do with their hands while you're talking and learning together.
