Hey Boo Halloween Footprint Craft for Kids
Halloween is such a fun time to get a little crafty with your kids, and I especially love when a craft can double as a keepsake! I’m such a sucker for little baby and toddler footprints, and this “Hey Boo!” Halloween footprint craft is so simple and cute.
All you need is some paint, your little one's feet, and a printable template to create two adorable little ghosts that spell out BOO. You can frame it, give it to a grandparent, or just hang it on the fridge and enjoy those tiny footprints while they’re still tiny!
The printable is just $1 in my TPT store, so you don't have to spend a lot of time or money getting this craft ready.
What You'll Need
“Hey Boo!” Footprint Craft printable – [grab it for just $1 in my TPT store]
Washable, non-toxic white paint
Small paintbrush or foam brush
Black construction paper (only for the “no blobs” version)
Scissors and glue stick (for the cut-and-glue option)
Baby wipes or a damp towel for quick cleanup
Optional: black cardstock for mounting
Optional: fine-tip black marker for the ghost faces
Making Your Halloween Footprint Craft
Print & Prep
Print your “Hey Boo!” footprint craft printable on regular paper or cardstock.
Before you get started, cover your work surface and have your wipes ready. If you're making this craft with a baby or toddler, you might also want to have a favorite toy nearby to keep those little hands busy!
Brush a thin, even coat of white paint onto one foot.
Choose Your Version
The printable comes with two different versions of this Halloween footprint craft. Both are cute, so you can choose whichever one sounds easiest to you.
Option A — Fastest: Print WITH Black Ink Blobs
This is the quickest version because you'll stamp the footprints directly onto the printable.
Line the heel up near the bottom of the black oval inside each “O.”
Press the heel down first, then gently rock the foot toward the toes.
Lift the foot straight up from the paper.
Repeat with the other foot on the second “O.”
Let the paint dry completely.
That's it! You now have two little footprint ghosts spelling out BOO.
Option B — Layered Look: Print WITHOUT Black Ink Blobs
For this version, you'll make the white footprints separately on black construction paper and then attach them to the printable.
Make two white footprints on black construction paper.
Let the paint dry completely.
Carefully cut around each footprint.
Leave a thin black outline around the footprint if you'd like.
Glue the footprint cutouts onto the printable where the two “O” spots are.
I actually prefer this version because I found that the white paint didn't show up as well when I stamped directly over the printed black areas. But honestly, both versions are cute!
Add Ghost Faces
Once your footprints are dry, it's time to give your little ghosts some faces!
Use a black marker or a tiny brush with black paint to add two eyes and a mouth to each footprint ghost.
You can keep the faces simple, or let your child help decide what their ghosts should look like.
Finish & Display
Don't forget to write your child's name and the year at the bottom of the craft. You'll be glad you did when you pull it out a few years from now!
You can mount the finished craft on black cardstock, frame it, or just hang it on the refrigerator.
It would also make a fun little Halloween gift for a grandparent.
Tips for Success
Making footprint crafts with babies and toddlers can be a little unpredictable, but a few things can make it easier:
Do one foot at a time and keep wipes within reach.
Practice on scrap paper first if your kiddo is especially wiggly.
If a print smudges, don't stress! Just reprint the page and try again.
For babies, try stamping while they're in a highchair. Having them safely supported can make things a little easier.
Have everything ready before you put paint on those little feet. Trust me—you don't want to be searching for the scissors with a painted baby foot in your hand!
And don't worry if the footprints aren't perfect! Wiggly toes are part of the fun. Plus, those little feet are going to change so much over the next few years.

Don't Want to Use Footprints?
If your little one absolutely refuses to let you paint their feet, try their hands instead!
Little handprints can make adorable ghosts, too. So if your toddler refuses to cooperate with the footprint version, you still have another way to make the craft.
